This Privacy Policy explains what personal information may be collected when you use this website, why it is collected, how it is used and the choices and rights you have in relation to it.

What information we collect

Depending on how you use the website, Drakeley Labs may collect:

  • your email address if you join the Drakeley Labs mailing list;
  • information you submit through forms;
  • information you provide if comments are enabled;
  • technical information such as your IP address, browser type and user agent;
  • information collected through cookies;
  • information relating to your interaction with emails sent by Drakeley Labs;
  • information required for website security, administration and spam prevention.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal data through this website.

Mailing list and email communications

If you choose to Join the Lab, we collect your email address so that we can send you occasional Drakeley Labs emails covering subjects such as AI, data, business, human performance, books, research and experiments.

We use MailPoet to manage subscribers and send email communications.

MailPoet may process information relating to subscribers and email delivery, such as email addresses, subscription status and records associated with emails sent through its service. MailPoet also uses infrastructure and service providers in a number of countries. MailPoet Knowledge Base

The legal basis we rely on for sending these emails is your consent.

You will normally be asked to confirm your subscription by clicking a confirmation link sent to your email address.

You can withdraw your consent at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link included in our emails. UK electronic-marketing rules require consent for marketing emails to individuals in most circumstances and require an easy means of opting out. Information Commissioner’s Office

Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing that took place before consent was withdrawn.

Comments

If comments are enabled and you leave a comment on the website, we may collect the information shown in the comments form, together with your IP address and browser user-agent string to help with spam detection and website security.

An anonymised string created from your email address, sometimes called a hash, may be provided to the Gravatar service to determine whether you use it. If your comment is approved, your Gravatar profile image may be visible publicly alongside your comment.

Gravatar is operated by Automattic and is subject to its own privacy practices.

Visitor comments may also be checked through an automated spam-detection service such as Akismet, if enabled.

Media

If the website allows you to upload images, you should avoid uploading images that contain embedded location information such as EXIF GPS data.

Visitors may be able to download images from the website and extract embedded information contained within them.

Cookies

This website may use cookies for functionality, administration, security and user convenience.

If comments are enabled, you may be offered the option to save your name, email address and website in cookies so that you do not have to enter those details again when submitting another comment. These cookies may remain for up to one year.

If you visit a WordPress login page, WordPress may set a temporary cookie to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie does not contain personal information and is normally discarded when you close your browser.

When authorised users log into WordPress, cookies may be used to remember login details and screen preferences. Login cookies typically remain for a limited period, while preference cookies may remain for longer.

Selecting Remember Me may allow a login to persist for approximately two weeks. Logging out removes relevant login cookies.

If an authorised user edits or publishes content, WordPress may save an additional cookie identifying the post that was edited. This does not contain personal information and normally expires after a short period.

Other services used by this website may also set cookies where necessary. If additional analytics, advertising or tracking technology is introduced in future, this policy and the site’s cookie information will be updated where appropriate.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles and pages on Drakeley Labs may include embedded content, including videos, images, social-media content or other material hosted by third-party websites.

Embedded content may behave in the same way as if you had visited the third-party website directly.

Those websites may collect information about you, use cookies, use additional third-party tracking and monitor your interaction with embedded content, particularly if you have an account with that service and are logged in.

The privacy practices of those third parties are governed by their own privacy policies.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share or allow access to personal information where necessary with organisations that help us operate the website and mailing list, including:

  • website-hosting providers;
  • WordPress and related website services;
  • MailPoet for mailing-list management and email delivery;
  • spam-prevention or security services such as Akismet, where enabled;
  • Gravatar, where comments and Gravatar functionality are used;
  • technical service providers necessary to maintain the website.

These organisations may process information on our behalf.

If you request a password reset for an account on the website, your IP address may be included in the reset email.

Some service providers may process personal information outside the United Kingdom. Where this occurs, appropriate data-protection safeguards should be used where required by law. The ICO expects privacy notices to explain relevant recipients and international transfers where applicable. Information Commissioner’s Office

Why we use your information

Depending on the context, we may use personal information to:

  • provide and operate the Drakeley Labs website;
  • send emails that you have chosen to receive;
  • respond to enquiries;
  • manage subscriptions;
  • administer comments;
  • prevent spam, fraud and abuse;
  • protect the website and its users;
  • diagnose technical problems;
  • maintain records required for legal, regulatory or security purposes.

Our lawful bases for processing

Where UK data-protection law applies, we rely on one or more lawful bases depending on the activity.

For the Drakeley Labs mailing list, we rely on consent.

For activities necessary to operate, secure and administer the website, we may rely on legitimate interests, where those interests are not overridden by your rights and interests.

We may also process information where necessary to comply with a legal obligation.

The UK GDPR requires organisations to explain both the purpose of processing and the lawful basis relied upon. Information Commissioner’s Office

How long we retain your data

If comments are enabled and you leave a comment, the comment and its associated metadata may be retained indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be recognised and managed appropriately.

If user registration is enabled, information contained in user profiles may be retained while the account remains active or as required for administration, security or legal reasons.

If you join the mailing list, we may retain your email address and subscription record for as long as you remain subscribed.

If you unsubscribe, some information may be retained on a suppression or unsubscribe list so that we can respect your request not to receive further marketing emails.

MailPoet may retain technical and delivery-related records in accordance with its own retention practices. MailPoet Knowledge Base

Other information may be retained where reasonably necessary for website security, legal obligations or dispute resolution.

Your rights over your personal data

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights including the right to:

  • request access to personal information held about you;
  • request correction of inaccurate information;
  • request deletion of information;
  • request restriction of processing;
  • object to certain processing;
  • receive certain information in a portable format;
  • withdraw consent where processing relies on consent;
  • object to the use of your information for direct marketing.

If you have an account on this website or have left comments, you may request an exported copy of personal information held about you, including information you have supplied.

You may also ask for personal information to be erased. This does not include information that must be retained for administrative, security or legal reasons.

If you withdraw consent to marketing, we will stop using your information for that purpose. The ICO states that individuals have an absolute right to object to direct marketing and that organisations should make withdrawal of consent straightforward. Information Commissioner’s Office

To exercise your rights, contact:

Peterdrakeley@yahoo.co.uk

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you believe your personal information has been handled improperly.

Where your data may be sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam-detection service.

Information connected with newsletter subscriptions may be processed by MailPoet and the service providers it uses to operate its email-delivery infrastructure. Some of those providers are located outside the United Kingdom. MailPoet Knowledge Base

Embedded third-party content may also transmit information to the organisation providing that content.

Automated decision-making

Drakeley Labs does not currently use personal information to make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on individuals.

Children

Drakeley Labs is not specifically directed at children and we do not knowingly seek to collect personal information from children through the mailing list.

Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time as Drakeley Labs develops or as the services used by the website change.

The date at the top of this page will be updated when material changes are made.
